In 1996, at the suggestion of Alan Truscott and the initiative of Al Levy, the American Contract Bridge League established an official World Computer-Bridge Championship, to be run annually at an international ‘human’ bridge event.  The first annual championship was held in 1997, at the ACBL’s Albuquerque summer NABC.  Starting in 1999 the World Bridge Federation co-sponsored the championship. Championships have been held at ACBL NABCs, WBF World Championships, and the first European Bridge League Open Championship.
